Dental implants have revolutionised the way we can treat tooth loss. Traditional tooth replacements such as dentures and bridges never completely restore the form and function of a natural tooth. We can provide dental implants, which are the next best thing to a natural tooth and provides exceptional functional and aesthetic results.
What are dental implants?Dental implants are a permanent tooth replacement option that relies on three parts: a post, usually made of titanium, an abutment, and a dental crown.
Dental implants are comprised of a titanium alloy that is highly biocompatible with your natural bone material. These implants are a replacement for the natural tooth root, and act as “screws” that over a period of months fully integrate with your jawbone material, creating a solid foundation for prosthetic tooth replacements.
Dental implants aren’t just an investment in your appearance and your self-confidence. They’re an investment in your oral health. Talk to your dentist at Asian Dental about whether or not implants are the best option for you.
Getting dental implants usually takes at least two visits. During the first appointment, your dentist will place the implants in your jawbone. After this, your jawbone and the implants will undergo a process called osteointegration wherein the implant will fuse to your jawbone. This process can take any between 6 weeks and 6 months. Once your jawbone has healed, your dentist will attach abutments to the implants, which serve as anchors for the crowns. Once your dental implants are placed, you will go through an adjustment period. Our dentists and their team will give you tips to adjust to your implants and are always available to you to answer any questions you might have about this period. Dental implants are one of the most secure options when it comes to tooth replacement. Some reasons people consider dental implants include:
Are dental implants right for me ?
Dental implants are an excellent option for most people. However, you do need to have enough bone structure to support the implants. Your dentist at Asian Dental will take comprehensive x-rays to determine whether or not you are a candidate for dental implants.
Types of dental implants availableHow Many Implants Are Used?
An implant-supported bridge is a replacement for several teeth that is secured permanently to dental implants. The number of implants used to secure the bridge varies depending on the patient’s situation, but a common configuration is two implants supporting three teeth: two “cap” teeth on either end bridged by another tooth in the middle.
Dental implants can prevent the continuation of bone loss that occurs when a tooth is removed. When you lose a tooth, the bone in your jaw no longer gets the sensations of pressure from the force of your bite that tell the bone to regenerate. As a result, your body starts to resorb the bone & your jawbone shrinks in that area. With an implant-supported bridge, the implants help your bone feel the force of your bite so your bone stays stimulated. Bone resorption may still occur under the middle of the bridge, but it will be less problematic than bone loss associated with having a removable bridge or no bridge at all.
A fixed implant-supported bridge is a more cost-effective solution than individually replacing each missing tooth with its own implant & crown. However, it is more costly than most removable solutions because of the implant surgery involved. Which treatment you choose to replace missing teeth depends on your individual health & financial situation. We are always happy to discuss all the options with you.
